Why Support ICIC?

ICIC's action-oriented research bridges the gap between theory and practice and drives change. Over the past decade, ICIC has engaged in an intense research effort focused on understanding and documenting the economic and the business opportunities of America’s inner cities, cities and regions. This wealth of knowledge identifies existing and emerging business clusters as well as new business opportunities, assesses the competitive advantages and disadvantages of the inner city as a business location, and reveals best practices for operating profitably.

All of which have been used for developing action plans: real-world, real-time ways to improve business.

ICIC is a national not-for-profit organization headquartered in Boston. ICIC’s team of 20 is led by President and CEO Mary Kay Leonard. ICIC’s nationally recognized Board of Directors, led by founder Prof. Michael E. Porter, includes CEOs, scholars, venture capitalists, and community leaders.

ICIC is funded by program revenues, event revenues and grants from corporations, foundations and individuals. In addition, ICIC engages private-sector resources through a new concept of corporate philanthropy that draws on the core strengths of nationally recognized companies to identify market opportunities and leverage ICIC’s research.
