Inner City 100 Application Process

Now in its eleventh year, the Inner City 100 is a national competition to find and rank fast-growing companies in inner cities across America. The Inner City 100 celebrates and supports these growing companies and spotlights the importance of a robust business sector in creating healthy urban communities. The Inner City 100 program begins accepting nominations for the program every year in July, and issues a call for applications in August.

Qualifying Criteria

To determine their eligibility for the 2009 Inner City 100, companies are asked to complete a brief one-page application form. To qualify, a company must:

      • Be an independent, for-profit corporation, partnership or proprietorship
      • Be headquartered or have 51% or more of its physical operations in economically distressed urban areas
      • Have ten or more full-time employees
      • Have a five year operating sales history that includes sales of at least $200,000 in 2003 and at least $1 million in 2007, and an increase in sales between 2006 and 2007

What’s in it for nominators?

Participating partners will have the opportunity to send representatives to the Inner City 100 Summit, and will be recognized in local press releases. These lists also bring positive attention to their host cities and the results of local economic development initiatives.

What’s in it for companies?

The Inner City 100 list receives substantial national and media attention. Past winners have cited meeting major investors, winning multi-million dollar contracts and gaining increased credibility as direct results of appearing on the list. All winners are also invited to attend the Inner City 100 Summit held annually in Boston. The Summit is a two day event in the spring that includes a CEO Forum at the Harvard Business School with world-renowned professors and experts, networking and educational sessions, and culminates with the Inner City 100 Awards Dinner.
